The third day of the 17th European Under 23 Fencing Championships in Cagliari shifted the focus to team events, delivering intense matches and decisive moments as the first team titles were awarded.
In women’s épée, Italy secured gold on home soil with a strong and composed performance from Carola Maccagno, Gaia Caforio, Lucrezia Paulis and Vittoria Siletti. France finished in second place with Anaelle Doquet, Oceane Francillonne, Gwendolyne Laharotte and Julia Caron, while Poland completed the podium with Kinga Zgryzniak, Alicja Klasik, Gloria Klughardt and Cecylia Cieslik.
The men’s foil event saw France continue its dominant run in the competition. Anas Anane, Eliot Chagnon, Adrien Helmy-Cocoynacq and Louis Pradel combined to take the gold medal, overcoming a strong Italian team featuring Damiano Di Veroli, Giuseppe Franzoni, Raian Adoul and Matteo Iacomoni, who finished with silver. Germany claimed bronze through Bastian Kappus, Niklas Diestelkamp, Linus Schulz and Henrik Barby.
In men’s sabre, Spain emerged as the new European champions. Jaime Florez de Vargas, Santiago Madrigal, Yago Moran and Jorge Casaus Pielago delivered a consistent performance to secure the title. Hungary, represented by Bertalan Toth, Huba Biro, Benedek Dallos and Kornel Pech, took silver, while Poland added another medal to its tally with bronze.
Nations Confirm Their Strength
The team events highlighted both depth and cohesion, with Italy, France and Spain each claiming gold medals and confirming their strength across different weapons. The level remains extremely competitive, with several close matches underlining the importance of teamwork and tactical execution.

The Championships conclude tomorrow with the final set of team events: women’s sabre, men’s épée and women’s foil, where the last European titles of this edition will be decided.
