Team titles decided on dramatic final day of the Junior European Championships
The final day of the Junior European Championships brought the team competitions to a thrilling conclusion, as Europe’s rising stars battled for continental supremacy in women’s épée, men’s foil and men’s sabre. With 23 teams in junior women’s épée, 20 in men’s foil and 18 in men’s sabre, the closing day once again demonstrated the depth and quality of European fencing.
UKraine Strike Gold in Women’s Épée
The junior women’s épée team title went to Ukraine after a composed and confident performance throughout the day. Emily Conrad, Alina Dmytruk, Anna Maksymenko and Mariia Sereda fenced with maturity beyond their years, managing crucial moments in the direct elimination rounds and showing impressive unity in the final.
Hungary secured the silver medal with Lotti Horvath, Greta Gachalyi, Blanka Virag Nagy and Laura Eva Kozma delivering a strong collective campaign, while Estonia claimed bronze thanks to Dinara Anis, Julia Trynova, Eliisa Kikerpill and Aleksandra Nikolajeva, who once again confirmed their nation’s consistent strength in épée.
Italy Lead the Way in Men’s Foil
Italy captured the junior men’s foil team gold after an impressive display of tactical sharpness and rhythm. Mattia De Cristofaro, Mattia Conticini, Emanuele Iaquinta and Fernando Scalora combined technical precision with intelligent bout management, taking control of the final at key stages.
France, represented by Zakariya Anane, Maxime Dubreuil, Guillaume Watson and Lucas Robinet, fenced with intensity and resilience to earn silver, while British fencing celebrated a well-deserved bronze medal through the efforts of David Sosnov, Callum Penman, David Kelly and Mohammed Belbouab.
Russia Triumph in Men’s Sabre
In junior men’s sabre, Russia emerged victorious after a powerful and confident run to the title. Iaroslav Borisov, Pavel Graudyn, Kiram Iarullin and Ivan Novikov demonstrated explosive speed and composure under pressure, sealing gold in convincing fashion.
Italy secured silver with Antonio Aruta, Edoardo Reale, Leonardo Reale and Valerio Reale delivering a spirited team effort, while France completed the podium as Tom Couderc, Michel Choueiry, Maximilien Tori and Paul Rouviere fought through a demanding tableau to take bronze.
