The individual events of the 2026 FIE World Championships in Hong Kong concluded with an outstanding performance from European fencing, as athletes from across the continent secured 16 of the 24 available medals. European fencers claimed five gold, five silver and six bronze medals, once again demonstrating the strength and depth of the European fencing community.
The results underline Europe's dominance on the world stage, with European athletes winning five of the six individual world titles and five of the six silver medals. Overall, two-thirds of all individual podium places belonged to representatives of the European Fencing Confederation.
Beyond the impressive medal count, the championships also highlighted the geographical diversity of European success. While Italy led the way with five medals, a total of ten European nations celebrated podium finishes in Hong Kong. Czechia, Switzerland and Germany each made history by capturing their first-ever World Championship individual gold medal in their respective weapons, while France and Hungary each added two medals. Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine also featured among the medal-winning nations.
The five European world champions were Alexandr Choupenitch (Czechia), who claimed gold in Men's Foil, Martina Favaretto (Italy), winner of Women's Foil, Lucas Malcotti (Switzerland), who triumphed in Men's Épée, Pavel Graudyn (Russia), crowned Men's Sabre World Champion, and Larissa Eifler (Germany), who secured the title in Women's Sabre.
The silver medals were won by Filippo Macchi (Italy) in Men's Foil, Arianna Errigo (Italy) in Women's Foil, Davide Di Veroli (Italy) in Men's Épée, Giulia Rizzi (Italy) in Women's Épée, and Sara Balzer (France) in Women's Sabre.
European bronze medalists included Dániel Dósa (Hungary) in Men's Foil, Alina Poloziuk (Ukraine) in Women's Foil, Barbara Brych (France) in Women's Épée, Radu Nițu (Romania) in Men's Sabre, and Sugar Katinka Battai (Hungary) together with Toscane Tori (Switzerland) in Women's Sabre.
