The 2026 Fencing World Championships get underway today in Hong Kong, China, bringing together the world's best athletes for nine days of world-class competition from 22 to 30 July. More than 1,000 fencers from across the globe will compete for the sport's most prestigious titles outside the Olympic Games in 12 individual and team events across foil, épée and sabre.
Hosted at the modern AsiaWorld-Expo, the championships mark the first time that Hong Kong welcomes the senior World Championships, highlighting the continued global growth of fencing and the city's growing importance as an international sporting destination.
Competition Begins Today
The first day of competition features the pool rounds and preliminary direct elimination bouts in Men's Foil and Women's Épée, with athletes fencing through to the final 64. The individual events will conclude over the following four days before attention turns to the team competitions, which will decide the remaining world titles from 28 to 30 July.
Following an outstanding European Championships in Antony last month, many of Europe's leading fencers arrive in Hong Kong aiming to continue their excellent form on the world stage. Olympic medallists, reigning European champions and rising young talents will all be looking to add a World Championship medal to their achievements.
